Red White and Blue Shooter Recipe

Heres a recipe for a density column thats a layered cocktail. Its perfect for the 4th of July or Memorial Day or pretty much any holiday with a red, white and blue theme. Red White and Blue Shooter Ingredients Bottom Red Layer: Chambord or Framboise (or Grenadine)Middle White Layer: Irish Cream or Half and Half or any cream liqueurTop Blue Layer: Blue Curacao (or you could dye vodka or rum with blue food coloring) You may also want to add a float of Goldschlager to get a golden gilttery firework effect. Layer the Red White Blue Shooter Fill a shot glass about a third of the way full of the red drink.Place a spoon, back side up, just above the top of the red liquid. Slowly pour the half-and-half over the back of the spoon. This will layer it over the red with minimal mixing.Use a clean spoon to repeat the process to layer the blue liquid over the white. Add some Goldschlager if you wish. I (of course) would also set this drink on fire, but thats just me. To ignite the drink, add a small amount of high proof alcohol to the top. Everclear or 151 rum are good choices. Enjoy your alcoholic density column!

The article heavily criticised the work life balance of all those junior doctors who have been working in Yorkshire and Humberside. As a result, he has also suggested to implement strategies that would help the junior doctors in exercising a better balance between their personal lives and work lives. Therefore, this r eport has been prepared to suggest strategies and methods that can be used by the health authority in achieving its strategic goals and becoming more competitive in the industry. Human resource models for the healthcare authority The concept of human resource management has greatly evolved over the past few decades. It was started as a subject but has now reached a level where business organisations consider human resource management as a strategic business partner. Till date, a number of human resource management models have been prepared and all of them have almost the same purpose to solve. The models used in human resource management provide a framework to business organisations to build up their human resource managerial strategies and design all the human resource management practices involved in the business. There are a number of human resource management models, such as the Fombrun model, The Harvard Model, the Warwick model, etc. that can be used by YHRA to meet its strategic goals but The Guest Model is one model that will satisfy all the needs of the healthcare unit (Managementstudyhq, n.d.). The Guest Model of human resource management was developed by David Guest in 1997 and is said to be a superior model than all the other models in the field. The crux of the model is that all human resource managers have certain strategies to begin with, which will demand specific practices and when these practices are executed, they will result in outcomes, which include behavioural, performance and financial rewards. The model prepared by David Guest is divided into a logical sequence of six components i.e. Human resource strategy, human resource practice, human resource outcomes, behavioural outcomes, performance results and financial consequences (Briefingwire, 2013). In the case of YHRA, the senior level management wants to uplift the condition of its human resources and optimise their performance level in order to establish a better image in the market as a brand and also to attract a higher government investment. To achieve its strategic goals, the management will have to redesign a number of its human resource management practices by aligning them with their human resource strategic goals. The management also wants to introduce a system of performance management in the workplace so that the workplace environment can be more performance oriented. Even more, the management wants to recruit new doctors and nurses and wants to offer a better work life balance to their existing staff. All these strategic goals can only be achieved by following an effective human resource model that would provide a framework to the company to design new human resource strategies, implement human resource practices, identify human resource outcomes of the new practic es, measure the behavioural changes demonstrated by the workforce, evaluate the change in performance and keep a check on the financial consequences. In such a scenario, the model prepared by David Guest looks like it was tailored to meet the needs of YHRA and help the healthcare organisation in achieving its strategic goals and also to help the company in aligning its human resource management practices with its long term objectives (Price). Recruitment and talent management strategies Recruitment is a process where business organizations identify vacancies in their workplaces that they are likely going to encounter in the near future and inviting applications for the fulfilment of the vacancies (McGraw, 2013). On the other hand, talent management is an approach where business organisations implement a number of strategies to attract, recruit, engage, motivate and retain a talented pool of employees (Arissa, Cascio, Paauwe, 2014). One of the new strategic goals of YHRA is to attract a greater financial investment from the local government and to achieve it, the company is planning to recruit specialist nurses and doctors. In the healthcare industry, recruitment and selection of employees is one of the biggest challenges that the employers face. Due to an alarming increase in the global population and because of the decline in availability of healthcare professionals, the recruitment and selection process is becoming very difficult and challenging for the employers(Matike Martorell, 2005). There is a huge race for recruiting the fresh graduates in the healthcare industry and most of them are willing to work for established brands, which makes it difficult to find the right talent at the right time. Thus, YHRA needs to carefully and urgently design certain strategies that will help it in recruiting a large pool of specialist doctors and nurses. Some strategies that can help YHRA in strengthening its recruitment process are discussed below: First of all, YHRA needs to establish itself as a major healthcare organisation in the market. It needs to promote itself as an employer of choice in the market by making its work conditions favourable for the employees. To attract a larger pool of talented and specialist doctors and nurses, YHRA can design compensation and benefit plans that are above the market average and are highly competitive (Flanagan, 2016). Offering better workplace conditions and compensation and benefit plans will provide an upper hand to the health care organisation in the recruitment process and a larger pool of talented candidates will be willing to work for the company. Secondly, to gain a competitive edge in the recruitment and selection process, it is important for YHRA to collaborate with some of the top medical colleges located in its vicinity. Getting into collaboration with such medical institutes, the company will be able to conduct recruitment and selection events even before the students complete their graduation or post-graduation (Hirsch, 2013). The students will obviously get job opportunity while YHRA will be able to make a selection choice from a large pool of talented graduates. Thirdly, a major problem that is surrounding the health care industry at present is the high number of baby boomers that are retiring in thousands of number every day. This leaves the healthcare industry in a deficit as the experienced doctors and nurses are retiring and are creating an alarming need for new talent in the industry. To cope up with high turnover rates in the industry, YHRA can start to practice a balance between the number of baby boomers and fresh talent in its healthcare units. It should recruit a good number of fresh graduates, who are specialists in different medical fields, so that the it does not have to encounter a sudden rise in its human resource demand because of baby boomers retiring in large numbers. Fourthly, offering work life balance opportunities to the employees can prove to be one of the best ways in attracting, motivating as well as in retaining a large pool of specialist doctors and nurses. Healthcare industry is one industry where the employees are not able to maintain a balance between their work lives and personal lives. Because of an alarming increase in the health related problems and diseases, healthcare institutes and hospitals are flooded with patients at all time of the day and night, which keeps the employees really busy (Cocca, 2015). As a result, a healthcare organisation that values the work life balance of its employees can establish a great reputation in the market, which can help in attracting a greater pool of talented employees and retaining those who have already been working with the organisation. Lastly, the management at YHRA needs to ensure that it undertakes human resource planning as a continuous process. Human resource planning is a process that allows business organisations to forecast job vacancies that they likely going to encounter in the near future and identifying ways to fulfil theses vacancies (Undercoverrecruiter, 2017). Therefore, it is important for the company to implement strategies that will help it in improving the work life balance of its employees so that it can improve its reputation as an employer. Some strategies that the company can use to improve work life balance policies for junior doctors are discussed below: First of all, it is important to understand that the healthcare industry cannot practice a perfect work life balance because of human life at stake. Therefore, it is important for organisations like YHRA to take certain steps that can allow their employees to take some time off and relax while at work itself (Kennedy Pearce Consulting, n.d.). The management at YHRA can introduce some welfare activities, such as a gym, inside the institute itself, where the employees can spend their time while they are not occupied with work. Secondly, a major concern for the employees working in healthcare industry is their family and children in particular. Not being able to take out time for their children can demotivate and disengage the employees, who would then show less commitment towards the organisation and their jobs (Barton Team, 2016). In order to offer a better work life balance to the employees, YHRA can introduce an onsite childcare service where a pool of trusted staff can take care of the employees children while they are busy with their work. Further, the employees can also spend time with their children whenever they find time in between, which will be helpful for them and will keep them motivated. Thirdly, healthcare is an industry where the employees are subjected to a lot of pressure and just like any other human being, they can have bad days too. To help them in maintaining a peaceful balance between their work lives and personal lives, the management at YHRA can build a quiet space, which will not contain anything related to the job but will contain plants, flowers, seating, lighting, reading material, a canteen, etc. (Pingboard, n.d.).The employees working at YHRA can then visit this quiet space in their free time and can calm themselves down. Such a strategy will help the employees in easing up their minds and maintaining their calm during bad days. Managing relations with trade unions A trade union is an organisation that comprises of employee representatives. The basic idea behind the formation of trade unions is to ensure that the employers behave ethically towards the employees and do not implement strategies that are against the laws or not in the interest of the employees (Chand, n.d.). Trade unions are also important from an employees point of view because they offer an opportunity to the employees for expressing their views and interests. Trade unions also play an important role in the bargaining process when there are human resource management practices being designed by the employers. Maintaining good relations with trade unions is an important task for business organisations as they can have a lot of impact on the existing workforce and can also make it difficult for an organisation to recruit new workforce. For an institute like YHRA, the need to maintain proper relations with becomes even more when its reputation as an employer is dwindling in the market. YHRA also plans to recruit new talent for attracting a greater investment from the government, which also adds up to its need to establish good relations with trade unions. Some strategies that can help YHRA in establishing good relations with the trade unions are given below: First of all, the management at YHRA needs to give recognition to trade unions that are associated with its business model or the ones that have been joined by their workforce. The management should make it a point that it involves the trade unions associated with its industry while taking important decisions related to its human resources so that there is no resistance at later stages and a collective decision can be taken. Secondly, the management also needs to give its employees a fair chance to join any trade union that they want to and behave ethically towards them so that they are not offended by the actions of the employers or by any human resource management policy that they introduce. Having its own employees as members of the trade unions will help YHRA in establishing peaceful and effective relations with the trade unions. Lastly, the management at YHRA needs to understand that peaceful relations with trade unions can only be maintained when they are given an equal importance. The management needs to consider them as an important part of their business and whenever there is an issue that erupts between a trade union and the management, collective bargaining should be treated as a way out, rather than taking firm stands or resorting to strikes. Conclusion The Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Health Authority is facing a tough condition where it has to achieve its organisation strategies but its reputation as an employer in the market is at an all-time low. Also, the organisation is operating in the health care industry, where a competitive edge can only be achieved if an organisation has a talented pool of employees and effective human resource management strategies. Thus, the importance of managing the human resources properly increases even further. To become more efficient in managing the human resources, keeping the employees motivated and engaged, optimising the performance of the individuals, helping the employees in maintaining a healthy work life balance and to establish better relations with the trade unions, the management at YHRA can look into the above recommendations as they will greatly help the company in achieving its organisational goals and strategies. In todays world, it is obvious how most people are influenced and admire others mostly because of their physical beauty. However this novel exaggerates this point to a great extent to be realized. Isabelle-Marie and Patrice who are excessively fond of beauty by their mother Louise nearly blinds them, thinking of it as a necessity like food and shelter. One of the main characters in the story, Louise is a perfect example of how someone loses their right sense of understanding. Excessively blinded by beauty, she denies the fact that her own son has mental problem. As long as she can still admire his gorgeous features, as she thinks that this beauty reflects back on her. Lost in her own world she forgets the fact that she also has a daughter to raise into a decent young woman. In actual fact, she rather detests Isabelle-Marie for not having such beauty as herself or Patrice. At a point in the story, Louise notices a vein bulging on her neck she makes a great commotion about such a small thing, referring it as a viper. After realising that it was a sign of aging and not being able to hide it with makeup, she tries to avoid it. After marrying to an attractive man Lanz, he takes advantage of her and takes over her wealth, which often left Patrice alone and heartbroken. Handsome Patrice, who was always admired by everyone, being perfect in every way had always left her sister jealousy. However, he lacked a normal beings mental ability, which was always meant to be ignored from his caretaker. His appearance and looks was the only thing thought by his mother. Language Notes on the Use of Aint in English As far as I know, only one rule of English usage has ever made its way into a childrens jump-rope rhyme: Dont say aint or your mother will faint,Your father will fall in a bucket of paint,Your sister will cry, your brother will die,Your cat and dog will call the FBI. Though frequently heard in casual speech, aint has been described as the most stigmatized word in English. Dictionaries usually label it dialectal or nonstandard, while some purists even deny its right to exist, insisting that aint isnt a word. What is it about this simple negative contraction that agitates language mavens and spreads fear on the playground? As these notes demonstrate, the answer is surprisingly complex. Grammar and Usage[The] two meanings of grammarhow the language functions and how it ought to functionare easily confused. To clarify the distinction, consider the expression aint. Unless used intentionally to add colloquial flavor, aint is unacceptable because its use is considered nonstandard. Yet taken strictly as a part of speech, the term functions perfectly well as a verb. Whether it appears in a declarative sentence (I aint going) or an interrogative sentence (Aint I going?), it conforms to the normal pattern for all verbs in the English language. Its a shortened form of several wordsam not, are not, is not, has not and have not. It appears in written English in the 18th century in various plays and novels, first as ant and then as aint. During the 19th century, it was widely used in representations of regional dialect, especially Cockney speech in the UK, and became a distinctive feature of colloquial American English. But when we look at who is using the form in 19th-century novels, such as those by Dickens and Trollope, we find that the characters are often professional and upper-class. Thats unusual: to find a form simultaneously used at both ends of the social spectrum. Even as recently as 1907, in a commentary on society called The Social Fetich, Lady Agnes Grove was defending aint I as respectable upper-class colloquial speechand condemning arent I!She was in a rapidly diminishing minority. Prescriptive grammarians had taken against aint, and it would soon become universally condemned as a leading marker of uneducated usage.(David Crystal, The Story of English in 100 Words. St. Martins Press, 2012) Collocational AintIn Present-Day English, aint is stigmatized even though linguistically it is formed by the same rule speakers use to form arent and other nonstigmatized contracted auxiliary verbs. . . . [T]here is nothing linguistically wrong with it; in fact, aint is used by many speakers in certain fixed expressions and to convey a certain rhetorical effect: It aint over yet! Wadsworth, 2010 Prissy, Ridiculous, and Unpopular Alternatives to Aint I?As linguistic scholars have frequently pointed out, it is unfortunate that aint I? is unpopular in educated speech, for the phrase fills a long-felt need. Am I not? is too prissy for down-to-earth people; amnt I? is ridiculous; and arent I?, though popular in England, has never really caught on in America. With a sentence like the one under discussion [Im your best friend, aint I?] you are practically in a linguistic trapthere is no way out unless you are willing to choose between appearing illiterate, sounding prissy, or feeling ridiculous.(Norman Lewis, Word Power Made Easy. Simon Schuster, 1979) Class ActsA correlation exists between the use of aint and social class, i.e. it is more frequent in lower-class speech. In upper-class speech it is indicative of a personal relationship and an informal situation . . . and is employed when the other person knows that the speaker is using aint for stylistic effect, rather than from ignorance or lack of education (Feagin 1979: 217). Walter de Gruyter, 1995) Gender ActsThere is still in the American popular mind a notion that aint, for all its faults, is masculine, while arent is not simply feminine, but effeminate. In Thomas Bergers novel The Feud (1983), Tony, a high school student, finds that good grammar must take a back seat to his public sexual identity. Tony defends his use of the masculine aint against his girlfriend Eva s objection that it is a sign of ignorance: I dont like to talk like a girl. Somebody might think I was a pansy.(Dennis E. Majority of t he women from immigrant community are coming to Canada for employment. In fact the women from immigrant community are suffering more employment discrimination and wage inequality compared to the local women. This is because of the increased racial profiling and stereotyping. â€Å"For instance, using the Ethnic Diversity Survey, Reitz and Banerjee (2005) found that while only about 10 percent of White respondents perceived overall societal discrimination in the past five years, more than a third (35.9 percent) of visible minorities reported experiencing discrimination† (Banerji, 2006, p.2-3). The increased participation of women in paid work seems to be the major factor behind increased gender inequality in Canadian workplace. Earlier, women were not much interested in coming out from the kitchens and look for any paid jobs outside. In fact male domination prevented them from doing so. However, the changing concepts of social life and the increased call for men and women equa lity helped women to break the barrier and increase their participation in outside jobs. Theoretical perspectives A separate study released by the Toronto-Dominion Bank says the earnings wage gap is related to motherhood. "Women in this group appear to be incurring larger wage penalties unrelated to their skills, education and experience,† the bank says. â€Å"Evidence strongly suggests that labor force intermittency is the main, yet multidimensional, culprit." Women without children tend to have similar wages to men with comparable levels of experience and education. Women who leave the workforce to have children tend to experience "an unexplained, but persistent" wage gap of about 3% per year for each year they are away, the bank says (Canada ranks 20th in global gender equality study, 2011). Motherhood seems to be a major reason for the wage inequalities and employment discriminations in Canada. Motherhood prevents women from working as normally as men. Some have argued that government spends, directly or indirectly, a lot of money on the education of an Engineer or a Doctor and in case these professionals join general services like IAS or IPS the hard spent government money goes into the gutter. Good some thinking of the type has emerged to care for the state expenditure. It was even in the year 1995 as well that some candidates from the general education side had suggested that engineering graduates should not be allowed to appear in entrance examination for IAS /IPS/IAAS/IRS and such like services. The reaction had been in response to the high rate of success in UPSC prime entrance examination from amongst the candidates with engineering degree, even clear walking away with almost 75 % of top ranks by engineering graduates ( doctors etc were not named at that time because they did not figure at the rate as the engineers figured to oust the generalist). The position is not much different in 2008.And now expenditures made by the society/ government have been talked about. Better before starting such discussions those so concerned with the subject would have asked the Engineers, Doctors, Post Graduate in Sciences, and the like and more so the rank holders amongst these categories of technocrats from even premier institutions like Indian Institute of Technology, BITS Pilani, IIMs that why do they try all hards to enter the general services like IAS ( where minimum qualification is any graduate degree) and let go waste the technical expertise/ professionalism they otherwise acquired through so much of hard work and investment , even as acquired out of aims and ambitions ? have observed that the engineering graduates prefer to enter IAS than to go for IES ( Indian Engineering Service ) since they feel that the top seat of civil governance in the Union Secretariat will generally be occupied by an IAS officer and not by the IES( Indian Engineering Service) officer. Such views were expressed by one of the engineering graduate who had ranked in top 5 of IAS l ist and had laid preference for IAS and not Indian Engineering Service. I had been investigating in this direction for more than 12 years now. And have been able to work out some reasons for such type of thinking being developed. A few years earlier in India we used to talk of brain drain to out side India and it was reasoned that since the engineers/ scientists/ doctors are not well paid in terms of cash and career in India that is why they attempt leaving for US/UK/ other countries. And now the question is of brain drain from professional bank to the general service bank. The reason in this case lies both in Career Prospects, involvement in governance of the affairs of the society and perks in terms of monetary as well as social authority. The disparity between the IAS and other Government services is so huge that any one would prefer IAS .

Believe in Love at First Sight Essay -- essays research papers

Well I use to believe that love couldn't be made at first sight. But yet now today I do think it happens. I will now share what I think love means. Love is affection, devotion, passion, desire, warmth, respect or loyalty. You choose. It doesn't really matter which one because they are all forms of love. Some are powerful and demand attention while others are more subtle and just below the surface. In recent years, love has drifted from these subtle levels to the more noticeable ones, namely passion. In my opinion, our society downplays the real necessity for genuine affection. By this I mean that we, as a society, spend so much time focusing on only one level of love (passion) that we tend to neglect and not recognize the need for closeness and trust (friendship). Love is an all-encompassing emotion that can be powerful and demanding, but also rewarding and pleasurable. Love is commitment. To love means to commit oneself without guarantee, to give oneself completely in the hope that our love will produce love in the loved person. Commitment can be called the backbone or building block of love. In other words, commitment is needed in order to build a stable and trusting relationship. Without commitment, love would not be able to grow and flourish. It can be extremely demanding on someone who isn't ready or sure that they want to commit to another person. I do have to admit that sometimes this can be extremely difficult and may leave one feeling a bit vulnerable. Commitment is the ability to take a risk and to accept the possibility of disappointment or pain. Again, I have to agree that commitment can be demanding, but to look on the bright side, it can also be rewarding. To be able to stay in ... ...t quench Love, nor floods wash it away." (Songs 8:7) Love is powerful and beautiful if one knows how to show and possess it. Granted it can cause problems, but it has answers too. To say that love is subjective would be an understatement, but in order to have it we must first look within ourselves. Love is having compassion for others, sharing feelings and your life with another person, as well as, having faith in others and forgiving those we love for the any errs that they may make. Most of all, we must be committed to those we love. Of course, this is only my opinion. No matter how long I try to explain what love is ultimately it is up to you, the reader, to define what love is to you. So let me leave you now with the words of the great Humanist Erich Fromm, "Can anything be learned about the art of love, except by practicing it?"

Isaac Asimov used entropy to explain our mortality and show how even if we attain the highest level of technological achievement there is, nothing in this universe can prevent our eventual destruction. Vim's Watson recently competed on Jeopardy! Against the TV quiz shows two biggest all-time champions (Jackson). Developed by IBM Research, Watson Is able to categorize vast volumes of information and using sophisticated algorithms built for searching known facts Jackson).Watson can then answer questions in natural language (Markova). Watson is an information seeking tool that's capable of understanding human enquires in order to deliver that content through a naturally flowing dialogue. Watson consistently outperformed its human opponents on the show, winning $1,000,000 that was donated to charity (Markova). Multiple, in The Last Qu estion , Is a similar computational machine, but what makes It ultimately superior than any computer we have today is its ability to actually think.Watson can only answer questions with known facts. It can't answer the unknown any better than pure speculations. Multiracial was eventually able to reverse entropy, creating the oral anew (Asimov). Keith Chilled, from Lancashire, England, Is attempting to create a machine that produces work Indefinitely (Roach). Such a device would violate the axioms of thermodynamics. Perpetual motion machines are machines that are supposed to neglect the laws of thermodynamics and continuously turn work back into work with perfect efficiency (Y. V. C. Raw ).One of the three laws of thermodynamics states that the amount of entropy in the universe can only increase making Chiding's machine impossible to build (Y. V. C. Raw ). The theoretical scientific exploration of the ultimate fate of the human species always begins and concludes with the laws of the rmodynamics (Ben-Anal). Entropy can be called the universal harbinger of the end of time (Ben-Maim) . The Last Question revolves around an artificial, learning supercomputer that is unable to save the human species from extinction and the threat of heat death (Asimov).Even with advances in science and technology throughout the story, the computer remains unsure about the future of Its creators. Nothing lasts forever. Even the youngest stars on the most distant planets will Turn out IT given enough time. Natural silence tells us Tanat everything In nature Is subject to entropy. Entropy is a central element in Isaac Asimov's famous short story that continuously plagues the human population with its definitive ending. Life and Death as Portrayed in Edgar Allan Poe’s Essay

Notwithstanding the fact that life and death is a recurring and typical theme in most literary genres, famous American poet Edgar Allan Poe successfully depicted this theme through his creative and inventive literary techniques present in the poems The Bells and The Haunted Palace. Poe’s The Bells depicts a representation of life from youth to the pain of age as time passes by. The four kinds of bells which are described in details in the poem can be associated to the four seasons or stages in the life of an individual (Bell 83). The silver bells represent spring, birth and beginning which entails happiness in the life of a person. This stage in the life of people usually occurs during the 20s or 30s. The golden bells on the second stanza could also represent happiness and joy to a person. This commonly takes place during weddings when two people are bounded by their enduring love and commitment. The brazen bells on the third stanza, on the other hand, portray the fall season within the individuals where mid life crisis seems to engulf their whole life. This season also indicates that winter is near that is why the third stanza sounds very different from the two first stanzas. The last stage refers to the winter which was depicted by the iron bells. This season entails death as winter is the time when leaves, flowers and trees wither and die. Likewise, this poem is also much associated to the author’s mourning over his lost wife whom he courted in sledge, married and then killed in fire in the end of the story. In real life situation, Poe lost his wife which caused him a great misery in his own life. The last stanza of this poem had many other implications in the real life of the author itself. The portrayal of this poem about the different stage in the maturation of individuals, in addition, becomes very successful since Edgar Allan Poe has the incredible ability to use sounds and images to concretize the ideas and emotions in his works. The different metal sounds, for instance, which were portrayed by the four kinds of bell, give the concrete justifications to the description of the different stages of human development. Each bell in the poem perfectly represents distinct tone and sound to every stage in the life of an individual. Poe, in this poem, indeed shows how meter, rhyme scheme, diction and syntax create sensory images for the literary works. Looking carefully at the overall structure of the poem, furthermore, anyone will find that death composes the major idea of the poem. Death is greatly discussed through the dominating tone and mood of the speaker in the poem. The bells, the objects used to personify the theme of the poem, also signify death and even described to experience death through the words moaning and groaning in the last part of the poem. Just like the poem The Bells, Edgar Allan Poe’s The Haunted Palace is also considered to discuss the theme death through its images and personifications. This poem was incorporated by Poe in his short story entitled The Fall of the House of Usher as a poem written by Roderick Usher, the main character in the story. This poem is a metaphor about a king who is afraid of evil forces that greatly threaten him and his palace. In this poem, the theme death is also very dominant just like the poem The Bells. The king, as described in the poem, is very doomed to face death in his life. This occurrence is sometimes true to most of the people since many treat death as the end of everything. The use of figurative treatment in this poem, moreover, illustrates how death comes to people and how most individuals react about death. The evil spirits in the palace serve as the metaphor of the thoughts of people about death which drive and lead individuals to insanity. Just like the king, many people are very afraid to face their own death. It is like the evil spirits in the poem which make a person out of his or her mind. Poe’s The Haunted Palace becomes a great poem of our time because of its perfect use of symbolism and imagery to justify and concretize the dominating theme of the poem. The palace in the poem which was haunted by the evil spirits represents a man in our society. The evil spirits portray the crazy thought of every man to death and its consequences. The poem illustrates that the palace is being hunted by the evil spirits just like a man who is being haunted by the frightening thought of death that may come in his life anytime of the day in his or her life. In the above discussions, it is very clear that the two poems, which are carefully crafted by literary symbolisms and imagery, are discussing the theme death which has something to do with the personal life of the author itself. Critics argue that Poe’s literary works mostly discuss death since they are the perfect reflection of his imperfect life. As a child, Poe had a very scary and sad experience as he was left in a room with the dead corpse of his mother for three days. As a student and youth, he suffered from a gambling addiction and other bad activities. At twenty-seven, Poe married his thirteen year old cousin. After the death of his wife, Poe became alcohol and drug abuser since he received less wealth and fame in his entire life (Gill 20). His life ended two years after the death of his wife as he was found drowned in his own vomit. In this sense, the theme death and suffering, which are indeed dominating in the works of Edgar Allan Poe, are somehow justified in the real life situation of the author itself. These works can be considered to inspirations based from the experiences of the author. It is also a writing style from Poe which became a significant topic for debates for as long period of time (Zimmerman 3). In total, Edgar Allan Poe’s The Bells and The Haunted Palace are literary works that perfectly tackle issues about death coupled with great literary devices such as symbolism and imagery. The Bells’ distinctive and creative sounds heard in each bell of the four stanzas intensify the discussion of the poem about the four stages of life of an individual with emphasis on death as the final stage of life. The Haunted Palace’s figurative and symbolic tools, on the other hand, perfectly discuss the fear of every man to face death in his life. The two poems are truly worth to consider as among the many literary classics of the world that will never die in the heart and mind of the people since they are indeed a creative and inventive fruits of the perspiration and labor of a good literary artist. En el caso de que los padres no està ©n ni hayan estado casados, la paternidad deber probarse o reconocerse  primero.  ¿Cà ³mo se calcula cantidad a pagar por child support? La cantidad que se debe pagar depende de diversas circunstancias, como las necesidades del menor, costo del seguro mà ©dico, los ingresos de cada uno de los padres, la existencia de ms hermanos u otras obligaciones familiares, el tiempo que el menor pasa con cada uno de los padres, etc. Puede haber un acuerdo entre los padres o, a falta del mismo, seguir las reglas de cà ³mputo del estado en el que reside el menor. Cada uno de los 50 estados de los Estados Unidos tiene distintas reglas. Si se desea obtener una idea de la cantidad que podrà ­a corresponder a un nià ±o se puede utilizar una calculadora online (en inglà ©s). Es necesario elegir la del estado que corresponde. Hay que destacar que, como regla general, se tiene en cuenta el salario bruto de los padres, es decir, incluidos los impuestos que le retienen o paga. En el caso de los migrantes indocumentados que por su estatus migratorio puede que no puedan probar cunto ganan la cantidad se estima segà ºn su ingreso potencial, lo que se conoce en inglà ©s como potential income. Todos los padres y madres tienen la obligacià ³n de contribuir al mantenimiento de sus hijos. Sin embargo, en ocasiones es muy difà ­cil hacer frente a esta obligacià ³n econà ³mica. Por ejemplo, en los casos de despido o de enfermedad. Pero teniendo en cuenta las consecuencias serias del impago nunca se debe dejar de pagar sin ms. Y es que Estados Unidos tiene un acuerdo con 77 paà ­ses para hacer posible que los nià ±os reciban de sus padres y madres la pensià ³n de alimentos. How to Apply to Grad School Most applicants become anxious when they realize that graduate school applications are very different from college applications. What do you need to know when applying to graduate school? First, the process of getting into graduate school can be confusing and downright overwhelming. Yet nearly all grad school applications are consistent in requirements. These include the following: TranscriptsGRE or other standardized test scoresLetters of recommendationAdmissions essay(s), also known as a personal statement Ensure that your grad school application contains all of these components because incomplete applications translate into automatic rejections. Transcripts Your transcript provides information about your academic background. Your grades and overall GPA, as well as what courses youve taken, tell the admissions committee a great deal about who you are as a student. If your transcript is filled with easy As, such as those earned in classes like Basket Weaving 101, youll likely rank lower than a student who has a lower GPA comprised of courses in the hard sciences. You wont include your transcript in the application that you send to the graduate program. Instead, the registrars office at your school sends it. This means that youll have to visit the registrars office to request your transcript by completing forms for each graduate program to which youd like to forward a transcript. Begin this process early because schools require time to process your forms and send the transcripts (sometimes as much as two to three weeks). You dont want your application to be rejected because your transcript was late or never arrived. Be sure to check that your transcript has arrived at each of the programs to which youve applied. Graduate Record Exams (GREs) or Other Standardized Test Scores Most graduate programs require standardized exams  such as the GREs  for admission.   Law, medical  and business schools usually require different exams (the LSAT, MCAT  and GMAT, respectively). Each of these exams is standardized, meaning that they are normed, permitting students from different colleges to be compared meaningfully. The GRE is similar in structure to the SATs but taps your potential for graduate-level work. Some programs also require the GRE Subject Test, a standardized test that covers the material in a discipline (e.g., Psychology). Most graduate admissions committees are inundated with applications, so apply cut-off scores to the GRE, considering only applications that have scores above the cut-off point. Some, but not all, schools reveal their average GRE scores in their admissions material and in graduate school admissions books. Take standardized tests early (typically, the spring or summer before you apply) to guide your selection of programs  and to ensure that your scores arrive at the schools you want to get in early. Letters of Recommendation The GRE and GPA components of your grad school application portray you in numbers. The letter of recommendation is what permits the committee to begin thinking of you as a person. The efficacy of your letters rests on the quality of your relationships with professors.   Take care and choose appropriate references. Remember that a good recommendation letter helps your application tremendously but a bad or even neutral letter will send your graduate application into the rejection pile. Do not ask for a letter from a professor who knows nothing more about you than the fact that you got an A such letters do not enhance your application, but detract from it. Be courteous and respectful in asking for letters and provide enough information to help the professor write a valuable letter. Letters from employers can also be included if they include information on your duties and aptitude relating to your field of study (or your motivation and quality of work, overall). Skip getting letters from friends, spiritual leaders and public officials.   Admissions Essay The admissions essay is your opportunity to speak up for yourself. Carefully structure your essay. Be creative and informative as you introduce yourself and explain why you want to attend graduate school and why each program is a perfect match to your skills. Before you begin writing, consider your qualities. Think about who will be reading your statement and what they are looking for in an essay. Not only are they committee members; they are scholars who are searching for the kind of motivation that implies a dedicated and intrinsic interest in the matters dealt with in their field of study. And they are looking for someone who will be productive and interested in their work. Explain your relevant skills, experiences, and accomplishments into your essay. Focus on how your educational and occupational experiences such as research led you to this program. Dont rely only on emotional motivation (such as I want to help people or I want to learn). Describe how this program will benefit you (and how your skills can benefit the faculty within it), where you see yourself in the program and how it fits into your future goals. Be specific: What do you offer?   Interview Although not part of the application, some programs use interviews to get a look at finalists. Sometimes what looks like a great match on paper isnt in person. If youre asked to interview for a graduate program, remember that this is your opportunity to determine how well a fit the program is for you. In other words, youre interviewing them, as much as they are interviewing you.
